Est. 1777 · Hertfordshire, England
Founded in 1777, G.B. Kent & Sons is the world's oldest brush maker. For nearly two and a half centuries, Kent has made brushes with patience and methods the modern world has largely forgotten — a record of unbroken craft that no other manufacturer can match.
Every Kent brush is still made in the same Hertfordshire workshop — by the same hands, using the same techniques. Automation has never replaced the craftsmen who hand-set bristles, shape handles, and inspect every piece before it leaves.
We choose our own timbers — English beechwood, satinwood, pearwood — selecting each plank for grain, density, and the way it takes a polish. Our finest brushes still use pure boar bristle, drawn into the head one tuft at a time.
Kent has held a Royal Warrant under nine consecutive British monarchs — from George III to King Charles III today. Royal Warrants are not bestowed lightly; they are earned over years of quiet, consistent excellence, and just as readily revoked. Few seasoned manufacturers anywhere, in any era, can say the same.
